Ladies, Stop Sending Guys Mixed Messages

Twerking isn’t working.

I first heard about the “twerking” trend when I joined Twitter. Nearly every high school girl I followed posted something about it. Many posted still shots of themselves twerking. At first it just seemed silly until someone posted a video of her friends doing it in public. I was appalled. It’s provocative and vulgar.

Ladies, stop sending guys mixed messages. When you behave like that, guys cannot see your true beauty. They will only see those actions when they see you – so why get upset when you realize you are being used by a guy? When you behave badly on the internet, there’s a whole slew of guys getting the wrong idea about you. A guy will treat a girl with the amount of respect her behavior deserves. We’ve got the power to either bring out the best (gentleman) or worst (loser/user) in them.

I’m going to be honest. I’m 17 and homeschooled. Now before you start judging and stereotyping me, I shop at Forever 21, I wear skinny jeans, I have friends outside my immediate family, and I don’t live under a strict Amish-like regime. I’ve never had a boyfriend, but that’s because I don’t see the point of having one yet. I have also seen friends go through the drama and heartbreak of high school relationships. It hurts me to see beautiful girls with sweet souls tarnish themselves and suffer through hurtful relationships instead of enjoying their freedom as they await the true love that God WILL send them.

Jane Austen said, To be fond of dancing is a certain step toward falling in love. Twerking isn’t dancing, and neither is grinding, or any other back-to-front dancing. Ladies, encourage a guy to look you in the eyes while dancing. If he doesn’t see you as a person with a soul and dignity, he is not worth your time. When you twerk and grind, he won’t see YOU at all.

P.S. You are enough.
