She cried. I cried. We cried together.

I walked in and saw her. Her name is Emily and she is dangerously sick with an eating disorder. Her hair is falling out, her face exceedingly sunken, the dark circles under her eyes are frightening, she has fine hair growing all over her body and her arm is about the size of two of my fingers put together. I glance at her and she looked at me. She cried. I cried. We cried together.

I let her lead the conversation. She told me how things were going and I listened. My mind wanders back to the summer I spent in Kolkata, India serving the dying at Mother Teresa’s home for the dying. Those dying patients just needed love, compassion and gentleness and that’s what the sick need in America and around the world. Someone to listen, someone to actually hear them, someone to pray with them, someone to offer them hope.

And that’s what God is. God is hope, love, gentleness, compassion and mercy. No matter where you are tonight, He wants you. He yearns for you. It doesn’t matter if you have an eating disorder, an addiction to porn or are 19 and just found out that you are pregnant. He still desires you. He desperately seeks to make good out of whatever situation you are in. Approach Him tonight. He is the most gentle Father. I know because I’ve seen what He can do and I’ve felt Him. Give Him a chance to help you. He thirsts for you.

P.S. You’re enough.
