Above All Shadows Rides the Sun

Yesterday in prayer I pondered what Mary must have been thinking and feeling in mid December over two thousand years ago. Having never given birth before, she must have wondered what the experience would be like. I image she also contemplated what the Son of God would bring to fruition. Being so close to term she must have radiated beauty, for within her rested the Son of God. The Father’s only Begotten Son brought to life through a fourteen year old’s fiat. How breathtaking is that thought?

From a very young age my mother instilled within me the power of the Rosary (or tried to). Mary’s intercession is exceedingly powerful. I’ve seen it. I’ve felt it. There are countless stories that I could share with you on Mary’s splendor and intercession. I’ve chosen the following miraculous story.

I was sitting around a camp fire in Denver, Colorado when this guy right here, Brian McAdam asked for our prayers.

It was May 2009 and I was at the Augustine Institute taking a graduate class. Deep in the woods one night, we all gathered around a bonfire. Amidst the strumming of the guitar, sticky marshmallow covered finger tips and chocolate slowly melting in between two squares of graham crackers, Brian told us of his need for prayers.

Brian continued to explain that he and his beautiful bride Sarah were having trouble conceiving after years. Now I’ve never been married and had no conception of what he and Sarah were going through. As he proceeded to explain I glanced toward him. The agony in his eyes mirrored the pain in his voice and my heart truly hurt for Sarah and Brian.

He asked for our prayers and I promised to pray for them daily. I went before the Blessed Sacrament the next day and asked Mary to intercede on their behalf. Jesus, Himself has said that He will not refuse anything from His Mother if it be in accord with His most holy will. So many people were praying for Brian and Sarah and I added my simple daily Rosary to the pleas to our Heavenly Father on their behalf for the next 2 1/2 years. Their intention never left my heart.

On the feast of Mary Magdalene several months ago Brian told me that Sarah was pregnant. Blessed be God! Sarah is due in March 2012!

God is alive my friends! Mary is real and grace is ours for the asking. Let us make a resolve today to be bold in our petitions, knowing that God is Majesty itself. There is nothing He can not do. Whatever your intercessions are, keep besieging God and His most holy Mother. Ask her to bring them to her Son and pray with perseverance, even if it is years.

“So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened. Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead? Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” – Luke 11:9-13
